St John's College

Practicals  and experiments form part of the science subjects content/curriculum, this is to ensure that the learners are also exposed to the practical side of a subject. It gives them an idea of what they can anticipate in the working environment of that subject. Just like every content, there are practical exams set out to  assess their understanding  after every Practical session. This also helps the moderators in understanding where they can improve when it comes to delivering these experiments

The Experiment: Rates of reaction and factors affecting rate

The aim of this experiment is to find out how different variables
affect the rate at which the reaction between
Marble chips (CaCO ) and
Hydrochloric acid (HCl) takes place. There are many variables that
affect the rate of this reaction such as:

1. Concentration 2. Temperature 3. Catalyst 4. Surface area

Chemical reaction resulting in the formation of new chemical products.

Agricultural Sciences↓

Agricultural Sciences deals with production and processing of food and fibre. This include the technologies of soil cultivation, crop cultivation and harvesting, animal production, and the processing of plant and animal products for human consumption and use.

Plant watering, crop cultivation is as shown on the left picture.

LEFT & RIGHT

Cultivation of crops is to allow Agricultural Sciences learners have a picture of what they learn in class, and closely monitor the growth and changes that take place in plants. This enhances their understanding and maximizes interest into the subject.

MIDDLE

Chemistry: Estirification reactions

*Preparation and identification of Esters

*Determining the Chemical equations for the formation of products using structural formulas.

The environment club

The environmental Club was brought into life by the class of 2014, Ayapha Ralasi together with some of the RCL members of the time.

The aim was to have a programme that ensures cleanliness within the school, plantation of trees for Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide circulation facilitation. Its built under the word green which is focusing on taking of the environment and converse it for the next generations.
